I had an old Honeywell "The-Round" mercury thermostat and wanted to replace it with a programmable. I chose this model from Honeywell because of their reputation, and since it is a backlit version of one of their more popular models.
The instructions are relatively clear about how to install. The only hard part is figuring out which wires you use in your home, which the directions obviously cannot know. In an old home with an old thermostat, this can be a problem if wires aren't labeled or color-coded, but I was able to get it to work without issue.
The thermostat has two programs, one for weekdays and one for weekends...very easy to setup. Comes pre-programmed with Energy Saver suggested program. One can temporarily override the program to get the house warmed up a little more by just changing the temp...then it automatically falls back to the schedule. Batteries and other programming buttons are under the snap off panel.
