Excellent general purpose drill bit set
»
I have several drill bit sets including two of these. For most projects that involve drilling pilot holes and driving screws, this is the set I reach for first. Here's why:
1. The 1/4" hex shanks make switching between drilling and driving super fast since they're the same size as the screwdriver bits. No need to crank the chuck down to the drill size.
2. The 1/4" hex shanks work with a 1/4" drive hex extension though they get a little wobbly. Still great when you need to extend the reach to get to those hard to get to places.
3. They hold their edge reasonably well when used for both wood and metal.
4. The case makes getting the bits in and out a snap. It doesn't pop open when tossed in the go bag.
It comes with two 1/16" bits. I remove one and replace it with a #2 Phillips driver.
The only drawback is that the tips are not ground to a split point so drilling the larger sizes in metal requires a bit more pressure or a pilot hole.
Summary: A good versatile set for everyday use around the house and in the shop.

DON'T BUY THIS IF YOU PLAN ON DRILLING WITH IT
»
I purchased this set to use for small jobs with my cordless screwdriver. I broke 3 of the bits within 5 minutes of openning the package. Not just the small diameter bits, the first to break was the 3/16". I was drilling into a 2x4, with no knots or nails or excessive pressure to explain the frequent breakage. The shank appears to be made of aluminum, so if the bits didn't break, the shank does not seem like it would last long either. I am a contractor who uses a drill every day, and have never run into such poor drill bits before.
